Norman Brown (June 22, 1932 - January 19, 1999)
Norman Brown was a most extraordinary humanitarian revered for his kindness, brains, wisdom, many talents, and humor.
He attended the Hartford School of Design and spent many years plugged into the New York City art scene, while on the West Coast he co-founded the Northern California Bead Society.
He was one of the first merchants to gain entrance to China for commercial trading, and his oriental antique business was firmly developed thereafter as the Antic Mews. His specialty was in jade and gems, and this expertise was greatly enhanced by his experience in organizing the presentation of countless exhibitions.
As a world renowned jade expert, he advised both China and Taiwan on their national jade museums, and he developed a reputation as a well-respected antique dealer, an incredible chef, an author, and a visual artist.
He lived all around the world, painted in Mexico for two years, and retired in Costa Rica where he started a homeless shelter for the disabled, which still operates today, known as the Tom and Norman Home - Foundation of Angels.
Norman gently guided each person he encountered to be the best human they could be and he continues to inspire kindness even now.
