The Goldmark Cultural Center’s Ruth Andres Gallery is proud to present “Play Time: A Journey Through Emotions”, an exhibition of resin paintings, sculptures, interactive installations, and soundscapes by Goldmark artist Sarah Sok Heng.

The exhibition is on display from 9/30 to 10/13, with a closing reception on Sunday 10/13 from 3pm - 5pm at the Goldmark Cultural Center’s Ruth Andres Gallery.

About the Exhibition and the Artist

My journey as an artist is shaped by my heritage as the child of Cambodian immigrant parents, survivors of the genocide known as the Killing Fields.

During this tragic period, over two million people lost their lives under the Khmer Rouge regime, including a significant number of intellectuals, artists, and teachers—people like myself, who were seen as a threat to the regime’s control. The privilege I have to create and express my emotions through art is something I hold with deep gratitude, knowing that so many others were robbed of that opportunity. Through my work, I honor not only the resilience of my family, but also the lives of those whose creative and intellectual potential was lost.

At the heart of my work is a belief that the process is just as important as the final product. Much like life, my art is often unfinished, chaotic, and layered with deep emotions. From my journey to sobriety 10 years ago to the unexpected connections that shaped my path, my work reflects the power of human connection and the joy that can be found when we let go of control.

My pieces are infused with personal stories—some painful, some joyful—but all are reminders that growth happens when we embrace the unknown.

If you are ready to let your imagination run wild, release constraints, and find meaning in the unexpected, then welcome to this exploration of playfulness and self-discovery, where curiosity meets chaos and introspection.

Feel free to TOUCH, PLAY, and MAKE A MESS as you journey through the collection. Engage your senses and allow yourself to reconnect with the joyful spontaneity of play. Each artwork is accompanied by a Spotify sound code, providing a unique soundtrack to deepen your emotional connection to the narrative of each piece.

Thank you for joining me in reconnecting with our curiosity and embracing the unpredictability of both art and life.
