A Journey through Color: Making Pigments and Paints with Jon Doumecq | 1:00pm Thursday 1/20, Saturday 1/22

  • Goldmark Cultural Center 13999 Goldmark Drive Dallas, Texas, 75240 United States (map)

Join us at the Goldmark Cultural Center at 1:00pm on Thursday 1/20 or Saturday 1/22 for another presentation in our monthly Artist Talk & Tour series.

The featured Goldmark artist for January is Jon Doumecq, whose demo and presentation will be all about his methods of making pigments and paints from raw plant and mineral matter. Jon will demonstrate the process of laking copper sulfate into a green bice pigment, using commonly available supplies. He will then demonstrate the process of filtering and drying pigments. Lastly, Jon will demonstrate how to mull pigment into watercolor paint and then how to render watercolor paint into gouache.

This month's Artist Talk & Tour event is offered on two different dates, 1/20 and 1/22, both starting at 1:00pm and ending around 1:45pm at latest. Come to the auditorium space at 14001 Goldmark Dr, Dallas TX 75240.

Beginning with his upbringing in an artistically inclined family, Jon Doumecq has been a lifelong artist, experimenting in a diverse multitude of mediums and processes. These days, Jon's primary artistic pursuit is the painting and sculpting of miniatures and dioramas, but over the past year, he has devoted considerable amounts of time and experimentation to making his own pigments and paints.
