Join us at the Goldmark Cultural Center from 1.00pm - 3.00pm on Thursday, 9/8, or Saturday, 9/10, for another presentation in our monthly Goldmark Artist Talk series.

The featured Goldmark artist for September is Susan C. Justus, and the presentation will be held in the auditorium space at 14001 Goldmark Dr, Dallas TX, 75240.

About the Talk
Susan C. Justus will demonstrate the following printing methods for capturing images of found objects and natural plant materials. Most of the plants she uses will be gathered in her own backyard. She will also discuss a number of variables that will impact the results of the printing process, including type of mordant, the “fugitive nature of the plant color and how to preserve your results.

Eco Printing/Eco Dying is a process that uses natural plant materials to print color and texture onto paper and fabric. The process uses plants, a mordant (to fix color), and an acid such as vinegar. The demonstration will include printing on silk, cotton, and paper.

Plant Pounding is a process of transferring the natural pigment of flowers and plants onto cloth or paper through the act of physically hammering the two mediums together. This process will be demonstrated on both cloth and paper.

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces blue (color can be altered) prints using coated paper and light. The process was discovered by the scientist and astronomer Sir John Herschel in 1842. This process will be demonstrated on paper and fabric.
