Join us at the Goldmark Cultural Center on Thursday 10/31, from 1pm - 2pm in the Auditorium at Building 14001 for a presentation on Nigerian culture and art, with Goldmark artist Du Chau.
This introductory presentation will explore the cultural and artistic background and context of Professor Pamela Cyril-Egware, the 2024 recipient of the Goldmark Cultural Center’s Anthony Okonofua International Artist Residency. During her Residency, Pamela will be spending 2 weeks in Dallas (11/10/24 - 11/24/24), and she will be presenting a series of lecture, workshops, and an exhibition of her own at the Goldmark Cultural Center.
In 2017, Du Chau traveled to Nigeria to participate in an international cultural and art exchange with the Nigerian arts faculty at the University of Port Harcourt, where Pamela teaches. During his time in Nigeria, Du Chau experienced much about the culture and artists of that country, and he will share his impressions and photos during the presentation.
We encourage anyone planning to attend Pamela’s lecture, workshops, or exhibition in November to also attend this introductory presentation, as it will cover a lot of the cultural background and context for Pamela’s art and practice.
I will share some unforgettable experiences from my trip to Nigeria as a visiting scholar in preparation for welcoming Professor Pamela Cyril-Egware, the recipient of the 2024 Anthony Okonofua International Artist Residency, which is scheduled to arrive in Goldmark Cultural Center in November. During my presentation, I will take you through the rich stories of the Nigerian people, their daily lives, and their vibrant culture. I hope to convey the diverse aspects of my journey by delving into the cultural and historical contexts, everyday life, and personal interactions that made this trip so meaningful to me.
